Stephanie & Arne

September 7, 2013San Francisco, California

Welcome!

We're so excited to celebrate our wedding with friends and family in the city that we love. This website will help you plan for the event, as well as showcase our collaborative website building skills :) See you in September!

Arne and Steph

Ceremony & Reception

The reception will begin at 3:00 pm on Saturday, September 7. Both the ceremony and reception will be held at:

James Leary Flood Mansion
2222 Broadway St
San Francisco, CA 94115

We will offer shuttle service from the hotel and there will be limited valet parking available. Please let us know if you wish to drive, as street parking will not be readily available in the area.

Attire

September in San Francisco tends toward warm afternoon weather and cool evenings. The ceremony will occur outdoors in a walled courtyard and the reception will be indoors so we expect the weather to be mild, but please be prepared for SF's characteristic sudden weather changes!

For ladies, cocktail attire is requested. We suggest bringing a wrap or other additional layer for the evening in case the weather gets cooler, and a spare change of shoes suitable for dancing.

For gentlemen, suits and ties are requested.

Visiting SF

We both love the City by the Bay and are excited that many of you will be able to enjoy our home during your trip!

Lodging

San Francisco is known for a lot of things. Unfortunately this includes having expensive hotels. We suggest shopping around to look for deals. Please feel free to reach out to us if you're unsure about booking a specific hotel!

Our venue:

James Leary Flood Mansion The Flood Mansion is in a beautiful part of town, but far from hotels. We will offer bus transport serving the Nob Hill area.

Some options:

InterContinental Mark Hopkins We have a wedding block reserved at $199 / night. Please book using this link or reference the Roomann-Kurrik-Liu wedding party if calling.
Marines' Memorial Club & Hotel Members of the military are eligible, and the rates are excellent. $399 / 3 nights (+ yearly membership fee).
Airbnb One of San Francisco's homegrown tech startups. You can rent apartments for short-term stays at rates far below hotel prices. Check out their awesome Nob Hill neighborhood guide!

Transport

SF is a fantasic city but has its quirks. For example, cab service is rather limited, especially around peak times or in isolated areas. However, a startup named Uber offers on-demand Taxi and towncar service throughout the city - you hail a cab at any time using a smartphone app. Tip is even calculated into the fare! Use the code c99yn to sign up and save $10 off of your first ride.

Stephanie & Arne

A love story.

A Google Romance

We met for the first time in the summer of 2007. Arne had just been accidentally hired into Google's still-nascent Developer Relations group. Stephanie was busy with the team, decorating the work area in a Super Mario theme for an office contest. Arne was way too overdressed for the west coast and Stephanie was wearing the standard Google uniform (t-shirt and jeans).

Three months later, Arne started at Google. The team was small enough at that point that we wound up sitting in the same cubicle. The rest, is as they say, history.

We were lucky enough to work for a great company with plenty of opportunity for travel. We've been around the world together and have been able to visit Taiwan and Estonia, where our families are from. Turns out both cultures have invented the dumpling!

Stephanie is still at Google, leading the global programs team for Developer Relations, while Arne has moved on to work at Twitter. We currently live above the beautiful Alamo Square park in San Francisco, California.

The Proposal

Arne, enjoying an elaborate ruse, gathered a group of our close friends to stage the proposal. He picked a warm, sunny day in November to make his move.

Mimicking a popular diamond commercial, Arne got down on one knee in front of steps filled with bystanders. When Steph said "Yes," the onlookers revealed themselves to be some of our closest friends.

We were able to spend the whole day of our engagement surrounded by our friends. See Steph's blog post for a lengthy account of the day.

The Ring

The ring was forged by Arne's own hands in the fires of San Francisco's Mission District, quenched with the tears of Stephanie's enemies. Behold:

Wedding Party

Officiant

Gunnar Tamm and Arne have gone on many an adventure together. "Goonies never die" they would yell before getting trapped in caves and finding treasure. Or maybe that was a movie. But we're pretty sure that Gunnar played Santa Claus the first New Year's Eve that Steph and Arne celebrated together.

Maid of Honor

Frances Hu and Stephanie met when they were in 5th grade, in ballet class. There are some embarrassing ballet recital photos that will not be pictured here. They were fast friends. In junior high, Frances introduced Stephanie to a fabulous group of girls that became her best friends, and will also be standing up with her at the altar.

Best Man

Tarmo Tammaru and Arne met in the rogue wilderness of the New Jersey pine barrens. Tarmo took Arne to 7-11 and purchased him a microwaveable hamburger sandwich. They've been the strongest of friends since, and gone on many adventures while always driving around in Tarmo's Jeep.

Bridal Party

Belinda Chin, Jenny Chun, Kimberly Fu, and Lora Wang are longtime friends from junior high. Stephanie's little sister, Valerie Liu will also be standing with her sister at the altar. Last, but not least, Andrew Mayen, a close friend from college, will stand with Stephanie as her bridesman.

Groom's Party

Kalev Roomann-Kurrik is Arne's younger brother and capo of the Roomann-Kurrik crime family. Matthew Anderegg has been friends with Arne since the first day of 1st grade. Taivo Ets, Mart Kuhn, Kaja-Kai Ojamaa (groomswoman) and Arne grew up together as longtime Estonian friends. Lane LiaBraaten made sure Arne didn't mess up too many things after being accidentally hired by Google.

Parents of the Bride & Groom

We'd like to thank our parents Sheau-Yi Liu, Katrin-Kaja Roomann, I-sheng Liu, and Andres Kurrik for their years of love and support! We've both been blessed to have such loving families!
